Try this with your troop before camping::

The Edible Campfire!!!!!
This is a great way to teach children how to build a fire. When its built you get to eat it!!!

Gather the following : Large and small straight Pretzels, bread sticks or tootsie rolls
Shredded coconut, small marshmallows, paper cup with juice.
Square piece of paper, tin foil or parchment for each place setting.

Build your fire:    1. Put rocks (marshmallows) in a circle on the placemat.
                              2. Make an A-shape with three large pretzels . Leave an air space under the crossbar
of the A. Add some "kindling" (little pretzels) but not TOO much.
                               3. Add some shredded coconut as fire ( you might tint it orange for effect).
                               4. Keep your water bucket ( cup with juice) handy!!!
                               5. Pretend to light your fire with a match and watch it "disappear" into your mouth.
Add more  "fuel"  ( bread sticks, pieces of large pretzels, tootsie rolls) as desired.

Or for a "healthier campfire" substitute: Dried Apricots( for rocks), Shredded carrots,( for fire),  sliced celery (for logs), bread sticks, long sliced bananas( for fuel)...or use your imagination.
