HOOKED ON BOOKS
Requirements
Brownies and Juniors: Complete 8 requirements and 2 starred.
- Make a scrapbook about a hobby , a favorite singer/star or sports figure. Share your book with the rest of the troop.
- *Visit your local library at least 3 times. Each time plan a different activity, such as, meet the children’s librarian, apply for a library card, find books on a specific topic, attend a story hour, browse and check out books. Arrange with your library to set up a display or exhibit.
- Find out how a newspaper is made. Tour the office of your local paper. Discuss with your troop the various careers available in the newspaper field.
- Write your own troop newsletter and mail it to family and friends.
- Make a bookmark, Protect it by covering it in a clear adhesive backing ie Contact paper.
- Create a storybook for a younger troop, children’s hospital, day care center or other group.
- Divide into groups and make up a skit, play or puppet show. Perform it for another group.
- 8.Critique a book, film or play for your troop. Write, tape or video a review or advertisement for others.
- *Create a troop book review card file. Write or describe summaries of books you have read and enjoyed. Include books used for badgework and troop activities.
- Discuss the different popular television programs. Talk about how they represent our lives.
- Design 3 book jackets for books you have read or have had read to you. Make the cover appealing so others will want to read it as well.
Cadette and Seniors: Complete 8 requirements above plus the additional ones listed below.
- Read 3 new books.
- Read aloud to a younger Girl Scout troop, siblings, senior citizens etc. on a regular basis.
- Write a poem or short story.
- Volunteer to work at your local library to help children.
- Hold a reading marathon as a troop fund raiser.
- Purchase Patches at GSWP when completed.
